What Should You Consider to Attend Fashion Designer Schools?

Saturday, 30 April 2011

What should you look for when you are planning to attend a fashion school? Your friends might tell two different opinions. Some might say that it will not be really useful as it will not increase your talent. On the contrary, the other people may tell you that not only will you be kept informed, but also will your talents and special interests be enhanced by attending the fashion designer school.
Whatever opinion you tend to believe, the reality is, it is not sufficient to just have some talents. What you should aim for is to be rained properly by professionals on the right direction and modern trend. Attending the right fashion designer school is one good way to achieve this.
If we want to develop new skills, we would like to find a school that can provide us with all the resources and materials. That would be the same when you consider choosing the right fashion school, especially if you care to pay for the valuable curriculum.

What are the basics for consideration to choose the proper fashion designer school? They are: curriculum, services and cost.
Curriculum: Remember that the main purpose for you to go to a school is to learn. That is to say if you can learn by other manes the same knowledge and training from your enrolled school, then why do you need to waste the money and time to attend this school. Besides, what you will learn should be connected with a good mixture of theoretical concepts plus the practical experiences from class setting.
In a high quality of fashion designer school, you should obtain the core of fashion designing such as fashion basics, modeling, sales marketing and merchandising.
Services: This is something you should not be ignorant. Good services provided in schools can bring you great benefit. Some of very valuable services include job placement after your graduation, a number of scholarships, high quality teaching staff and the efficient administration of the institution.
Cost: How much in total do you have to spend might be the most important factor you will consider. The cost varies from one school to another. The more popular the school is, the more expensive for training is the school fee. Also, since there are not many fashion designer schools, that means you might have to go overseas for your training.
Finding a balance between reasonable price and the quality of fashion designer school might not be easy. You will want to be practical. If you just target on the least expensive school, the quality and serve=ices of the institute may suffer.
I hope these simple tips will help you decide the school of your choice that you can be very satisfied with.

Tips for looking to Get into Fashion School

Is it necessary for you to have a college degree in order to become the world’s next great fashion designer? While true style can’t be taught, most people will agree that it is very difficult to find a job, any job in the fashion industry without some sort of degree, even if it is a two or four year one. As a matter of fact, going to fashion school and getting an education makes you more of an appealing job candidate. It is extremely competitive job market and an education can make the difference between you and another equally qualified candidate.
No matter how talented you are or think you are, fashion design school holds a ton of experience that you’ll be hard pressed to find somewhere else. You can make some contacts within the industry contacts, polish up on your techniques and even learn new and exciting fashion design software. School can teach you how to critically look at your own work, thus improving your design skills.
If you’re thinking about going to fashion school, there are quite a few choices to consider. Here are just a few of the beginning steps you’ll need to take in order to get yourself enrolled in the best fashion schools.
* If you have any dreams of joining the world of fashion, you better learn how to sew. There is no other skill that is as important as sewing is to fashion design. It’s also a skill that more and more students just don’t have. Knowing how would and can give you a one up on the competition. Learning how to sew can put a potential fashion designer a step ahead of the others trying to get into fashion school.
* Now is the time to master your drawing abilities. Now it’s true that a great portion of this artistic skill comes naturally for most people, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t at least take the time to practice drawing. You need to know how to effectively put your ideas on paper in such a clear manner that others can see them.
* Think of fashion just like you would as any other college. You’ll want to have good grades all throughout high school and a good SAT score. These schools are looking for the best of the best and want hardworking, dedicated and studious people. Good grades are a great indication that you would be that type of student.
* It wouldn’t hurt you to surround yourself with fashion by working part-time in a trendy clothing store or a fashion boutique. Not only does this show you are willing work your way from the bottom up but also that you have a basic understanding of how the fashion business is run.
* It is important to get some firsthand experience of any kind. This means you will have to offer your services for free such as through an internship. Working for free sucks but think of all invaluable experience you will be gaining. It is never too early to start building a portfolio.
* It is always good to have excellent references in your back pocket. Try to find any local fashion designers, even if their names are recognizable not, and study under them, ask them if they mind being followed or looking for help. You want to display all of your potential to them in order for them to be willing to give you a reference.

If you’re looking to become a fashion designer, then you need to make sure that you receive the best education in the field. Applying in Britain is your best option because, British fashion designing courses are generally regarded as the best in the world. Graduates sometimes get jobs in international fashion houses right after they complete their education and some even start clothing lines of their own!
Eligibility
What qualifications are you required to have in order to apply to fashion designing schools in Britain? You need to have completed your secondary education, or alternatively, students may even have a degree in equivalent vocational courses like BTEC in National Diplomas.
Education
After having completed your secondary education, you need to apply for a “foundation course”. So what exactly is a foundation course? This course introduces you to the basics of fashion designing, and no, it is not all fun and games. This course lets you have a broad and comprehensive art and design experience and you also learn how to put together the kind of portfolios which the industry demands.
After the foundation year, you are required to go on to the Higher National Diploma. This is a two year course. You may also do a Bachelor of Arts in fashion designing. This is a three year course. But most colleges offer a four year course which covers the material included in the BA as well as the HND. The fashion industry is an extremely exciting and creative one, armed with the proper qualifications and degree; you may just take it by storm!

Top avant garde fashion designers

Has the economy killed avant-garde fashion? According to a lengthy article in WWD, avant-garde designs, save those by a select few like Gareth Pugh and Bernard Willhelm, have fallen by the wayside. Fashion designers want to sell clothes consumers want to buy, and avant-garde does not fall under that umbrella anymore. Director of the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology Valerie Steele says, “Most people want very familiar, nonthreatening-looking clothes.” She adds, “The general mood in fashion is somewhat conservative due to the economy. It’s not a risk-taking moment for most people. Consumers have retreated and stores are worried.” Dutch designers Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren posit, “Avant-garde fashion probably exists out there, but it is somewhere on the streets … what is avant-garde today is mainstream tomorrow. It can be copied and marginalized very easily.” Luxury-industry consultant Concetta Lanciaux, based in Paris, says younger generations don’t want avant-garde. “Avant-garde is the desire to break with the establishment, and today the desire is the opposite.”
We disagree with Lanciaux. We might be seeing less avant-garde designs on the runways, but that doesn’t mean we don’t want them. We’re of the younger generation, and fashion to us has always been about developing a personal sense of style that separates one from everyone else. Indeed, shows like Pugh’s and Maison Martin Margiela’s are two we look forward to more than any others because we know we’re in for something completely unexpected.
And in a time when consumers are spending so much more selectively, won’t they seek out unique items that truly give them a reason to part with some cash? It seems you can’t walk two feet without bumping into someone who’s striving to stand out. Look at Rihanna in her diamond eye patch, and Beyoncé in her Gareth Pugh and Theirry Mugler. And everyone knows female pop stars are the heartbeat of the needs and desires of the cultural landscape of the universe.
